Our stance on Palm Oil.
When we started developing our soaps, we research long and hard at which ingredients to use – especially at the use of palm oil. There is such a lot of media coverage about the use of palm oil and it’s association with the destruction of Rain Forests. And yes – there are unscrupulous manufacturers out there who will do that – who will expand their plantations to make as much money as possible to the neglect of all else and irreversible damage is being done. We do want that kind if business associated with our company.
However, Palm oil is an important ingredient of soap; it makes the soap hard and longer lasting, and assists with lathering. Of course, we could make soap without palm oil, but we didn’t like the finish product, and the soaps we trialed tended to go a bit mushy.
So – why did we decide to go against the media pressure and continue to use palm oil?
Well, we only use palm oil that is certified through the Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO).
They not only look at the environmental issues, ensuring that any palm oil certified by them do not damage our planet. They also look at the social and economic impact. Please follow the link to read up on RSPO – and find out why the production of palm oil is not as one sided as the media makes out.
